Saba Ali appointed permanent Chair of Ban Conversion Practices Coalition

The Ban Conversion Practices Coalition is proud to announce that Saba Ali has been appointed as permanent Chair. Saba said:

“I’m honoured to serve as Permanent Chair of the Ban Conversion Practices Coalition. This role is personal to me as a survivor of childhood trauma and cultural abuse, and through years of advocacy alongside survivors, I understand how shame, coercion and control are used to silence people, and the lasting harm this causes.

Conversion practices are abuse, and every day without a ban allows that harm to continue. My work tackling violence against women and girls, and supporting trans communities, inform an intersectional understanding of these harms and why they must end.

It has been more than eight years since legislation to ban conversion practices was first promised. In that time, successive Governments have repeated that commitment, and yet we are still waiting. As Chair of the Coalition, I am committed to securing a fully inclusive ban that protects everyone. We will continue to campaign for the Government to publish a draft Bill before the end of this parliamentary session, like they promised.

Our coalition brings together survivors, advocates and experts, united by the shared mission to secure a fully inclusive ban that protects dignity and the right to live free from abuse. This moment matters, and I’m ready to lead us through it.”
